Hellblazer is what got me into comics. And it happened in a way that, if it doesn’t make me completely and wholly unique, puts me in a very small window of the world. I started reading comics because of Keanu Reeves.
Some afternoon, probably on FX, Constantine started playing. And through some strange television enchantments, I was hooked on this dark-haired, hellblazing, golden gun carrying, overcoat-wearing demon hunter. The next day it happened to be on again, and once more, I couldn’t turn away. Once finished, somehow I found out that it was based on a comic book (this was so long ago, who knows what websites existed then). A comic book? But this wasn’t a superhero. Did those exist?
Every now and then I write about comic books. Today was one of those times. Can you talk about preachy? To quote the wonderful Latrice Royale and her 5 Gs: Good God Girl, Get a Grip.
